The Journey

I’m a Michigan-based cybersecurity professional and hands-on technologist who’s driven by building systems that actually work when it matters most. In my career, I focus on protecting networks, investigating threats, and strengthening security operations through real-world detection, response, and risk management. Outside of work, I’m constantly building and experimenting with hardware, radios, networking gear, and custom systems, blending my passion for engineering, problem-solving, and community service. That mindset is what led me to focus on Meshtastic: a decentralized, low-power communication network that operates independently of cellular and internet infrastructure. I see it as a practical way to improve emergency readiness, public safety coordination, and community resilience, especially in rural and under-served areas. For me, Meshtastic represents the intersection of cybersecurity, engineering, and public service—secure, reliable, locally controlled communication built by and for the people who depend on it.

My past experiences

Cyber Security - In 2015 I could barely update a computer, in 2018 I started on a path that would change my life, cyber security. I have my bachelors degree in Cyber Security, with experience managing 6 clients and their entire network at once. Using various tools from SPLUNK! to Microsoft Sentinel, Rapid 7, etc.. Ethical hacking and penetration testing is where I have had the most fun but safeguarding sensitive information is where I have had the most success.

U.S. Army - I enlisted as a 19k (M1A1/M1A2 tanker) in 2004, deployed to Iraq with 3 ACR in February 2005-March 2006 and later deployed with 3ID to Iraq in October 2007 to December 2008. I went from entry level tasks to mission planning, training, and conducting tactical operations. I was medically retired in 2013.

I have spent time racing downhill mountain bikes (CAT 2), snowboarding, working various random jobs, and even became a tactical firearms instructor for a number of years, teaching the most advanced men and women ever.

Currently I enjoy spending time playing ice hockey with friends, spending time with my wonderful family, and enjoying life in Howell Mi. I have amazing support from my wife even though she labels me as a tactical nerd.
