From basics to advanced
Great Lakes Tactical Solutions provides practical, performance-focused firearms training and professional training support throughout Michigan. Rather than offering Michigan CPL courses, GLTS focuses on skill development through a progressive series of two to three handgun courses and three rifle courses, ranging from core weapon-handling fundamentals to more advanced applications. In addition to firearms instruction, GLTS provides professional OPFOR role-playing and scenario support for training organizations, law enforcement, military units, security teams, and other qualified groups seeking realistic, adaptive opposition during exercises.

Handgun Foundations — Pre-CPL
Designed for newer handgun owners who want practical instruction before pursuing a CPL, this course builds confidence in safe handling, handgun operation, marksmanship fundamentals, and responsible weapon management. Students leave with a stronger foundation and a clear understanding of the skills they should continue developing.
Defensive Handgun — Post-CPL
Built for licensed carriers who want to move beyond basic qualification, this course develops practical defensive handgun skills through progressively more challenging training. Emphasis is placed on safe weapon handling, decision-making, accuracy, movement, and effectively managing a handgun under pressure.
Vehicle Close-Quarters Handgun - VCQB-H
This course explores the unique challenges of defensive handgun use in and around vehicles through controlled, scenario-based training. Students develop an understanding of confined spaces, movement around vehicles, communication, decision-making, and the realities of working from unconventional positions.
Extreme Close Protection — Handgun
Focused on defensive encounters occurring at extremely close distances, this advanced course challenges students to manage space, protect themselves, make rapid decisions, and maintain control of their handgun in confined environments. Training emphasizes safe, controlled problem-solving when distance and reaction time are severely limited.
Rifle training
Focused around your rifle
Rifle 1 — Foundations
Designed to establish a strong foundation with the modern defensive rifle, this course focuses on safe handling, weapon operation, marksmanship fundamentals, loading and unloading, and basic positional shooting. Students build the confidence and consistency necessary to safely progress into more demanding rifle training.
Rifle 2 — Advanced Applications
Building on Rifle 1, this course introduces more challenging rifle applications involving movement, unconventional shooting positions, barricades, weapon manipulations, and decision-making under increased pressure. Students are expected to arrive with solid fundamentals and leave with a greater understanding of how to effectively manage their rifle in dynamic environments.
Vehicle Close-Quarters Rifle — VCQB-R
This advanced course examines the challenges of operating a rifle in and around vehicles, where confined spaces, restricted movement, and unconventional positions significantly change weapon handling. Students work through controlled exercises emphasizing safe rifle management, movement around vehicles, communication, decision-making, and effective use of available cover.

Night Vision 1 — Fundamentals
Designed for experienced shooters transitioning into nighttime training, Night Vision 1 introduces the safe and effective use of night-vision equipment in controlled environments. Students develop familiarity with equipment management, movement, communication, situational awareness, and shooting fundamentals while operating under reduced-light conditions.
Night Vision 2 — Advanced Applications
Building on Night Vision 1, this advanced course places students into increasingly complex low-light and no-light training scenarios. Emphasis is placed on integrating night-vision equipment with team communication, movement, problem-solving, and decision-making while maintaining safe and disciplined weapon handling.
CQB 1 — Close-Quarters Fundamentals
CQB 1 introduces experienced students to the principles, communication, decision-making, and safety considerations associated with operating in confined environments. Training emphasizes disciplined teamwork, spatial awareness, identification and judgment, and controlled problem-solving inside purpose-built training environments.
CQB 2 — Advanced Close-Quarters Applications
CQB 2 builds upon the fundamentals with more complex team-based scenarios requiring students to communicate, adapt, and make decisions under increased pressure. The course emphasizes coordination, leadership, judgment, and performance within dynamic force-on-force or controlled scenario-based exercises.
Recon & Counter-Recon
This advanced field course introduces students to the concepts of observation, information gathering, field craft, signature awareness, and recognizing when their own activities may be observed. Students work through controlled exercises requiring patience, communication, navigation, reporting, and adaptive problem-solving while alternating between observation and detection roles.
Surveillance & Counter-Surveillance
This course introduces lawful surveillance awareness through controlled training scenarios focused on observation, behavioral indicators, situational awareness, documentation, and recognizing potential surveillance. Students experience both observer and subject perspectives to better understand how patterns, routines, positioning, and environmental awareness affect detection and decision-making.

OPFOR (opposing force) role playing
Great Lakes Tactical Solutions provides professional Opposing Force (OPFOR) and role-player support for military, law enforcement, security, and established training organizations conducting exercises throughout Michigan and the Great Lakes region. GLTS can provide scalable teams of up to 12 trained role players with diverse military, law-enforcement, medical, communications, and other relevant backgrounds to portray opposition forces, suspects, civilians, casualties, witnesses, and other exercise-specific roles. Our personnel integrate into the customer's existing training plan and operate within established safety protocols, rules of engagement, and exercise objectives—providing organizations with a disciplined, adaptive human element that makes scenario-based training more realistic and valuable.
